URSODEOXYCHOLIC ACID

Ursodeoxycholic Acid is a hydrophilic bile acid that occurs naturally in bile. It’s obtained by synthesis starting from Cholic acid. Used to reduce level of cholesterol in the bile and for dissolution of cholesterol, radio-lucent gallstones. Furthermore it shows therapeutic effect in cholestatic liver diseases, improvement in serum liver enzymes and in primary biliary cirrhosis.

In addition it’s efficacious in improving hepatic function, sclerosing cholangitis, cystic fibrosis and chronic hepatitis. Recently it has been demo str ted that UDCA is an antioxidant that suppresses xidative stress in liver and in enterochytis cells.

TAUROURSODEOXYCHOLIC ACID

Tauroursodeoxycholic Ac d is obtained conjugating Ursodeoxycholic Acid nd Taurine. It’s used for dissolving cholesterol radio luce t gallstones, for treating chronic liver diseases with cholestasis, for treating primary biliary cirrhosis and viral and alcoholic chronic hepatitis.

GLYCOCHOLIC ACID

It inhibi s mitochondrial associated apoptosis. In animal models reduce ER stress and restore glucose homeostasis. It’s the main component of human bile and it’s obtained by synthesis starting from Cholic Acid. Mainly used as biological enhancer, solubility agent and drug carrier.

It’s listed as a GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) substance by FDA.

CHENODEOXYCHOLIC ACID

Chenodeoxycholic Acid is a natural substance found in human bile. It’s used in the treatment of gall stones disease and it’s obtained by synthesis starting from Cholic Acid. It’s used as intermediate for Ursodeoxycholic acid manufacturing while its pharma grade is used in the treatment of CTX (Cerebrotendinous Xanthomatosis) an extremely rare genetic disease affecting some hundreds people worldwide

CHOLIC ACID

Cholic Acid has been detected in the bile of most vertebrates in conjugation with Glycine and Taurine. It’s one of the end product of cholesterol metabolism.

Its acts as a detergent to dissolve fats improving their absorption in intestine and it’s used as a choleretic detergent. In some countries it was formerly licensed and used as a food additives. It’s listed as a GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) substance by FDA.

DEHYDROCHOLIC ACID

Dehydrocholic acid is a bile acid obtained by oxidation of hydroxyl groups in position 3, 7 and 12. and it’s used to increase the volume and the water content of the bile to improve biliary drainage.

GLYCOURSODEOXYCHOLIC ACID

It’s the product of the conjugation between Ursodeoxycholic Acid and Glycine. It ‘s a secondary bile acids obtained by enzymatic process by intestine microbial flora. Recently clinical study has been run using Glycoursodeoxycholic Acid and interleukin-10 to modulate inflammatory state due to the accumulation of unconjugated bilirubin within brain and resulting in bilirubine encephalopathy

LITHOCHOLIC ACID

Lithocholic Acid it’s a bile acid that acts as a detergent to dissolve fats and improve their absorption.

It’s under study as a biomarker of intra-hepatic cholestasis of pregnancy during Ursodeoxycholic Acid treatment.

NATURAL TAURINE

Taurine is a natural amino acid widely found free and conjugated in animals tissue but practically absent in vegetal world. It’s extracted from mother liquor of bovine bile hydrolysis and it’s used as additive in milk for babies, health drinks and for cardiovascular and metabolic disorders.

DIHYDROXY PROPYLTHEOPHYLLINE

It’s a theophylline derivative having vasodilator and bronchodilator activities.

Respiratory smooth muscle relaxant actions are well known.

THEOPHYLLINE-7-ACETIC ACID

It’s a theophylline derivative having similar pharmacological effect but with more specific bronchodilator activity.

It’s used as carrier in improving ambroxol blood levels. Its salts as acephylline are used as anti-asthmatic.

XANTHINOL NICOTINATE

Xantinol nicotinate contains the pharmacologically active component nicotinic acid combined with the basic theophylline derivative Xantinol. Positive treatment results have been reported in the treatment of cerebral insufficiency and improving short and long term memory; it has trombolytic and hypotensive activity. It has been historically used as vasodilator and to prevent circulatory disease.
